چکیده
Abstract Tremors and low-frequency earthquakes (LFEs), which occur in the plate interface, can provide useful information about state of aseismic stress transfer mega-earthquake fault zones. We estimated distribution triggered LFEs subducted interface. Specifically, we detected Ryukyu Trench by surface waves large teleseismic using waveform records broadband short-period seismometers installed Arc. selected a total 45 with magnitudes more than 7.5, occurred between 2004 2017, for analysis. could detect five earthquakes. Then, determined hypocenters relative arrival times each station. The were distributed south Okinawa Island Yaeyama area. Moreover, they around source slow slip events. These almost same as concentrated near to locations most active LFE clusters accompanying very earthquakes, suggesting higher sensitivity inducing these clusters. This indicates that VLFEs are activated acceleration areas.

Distribution of low-frequency earthquakes accompanying the very low frequency earthquakes along the Ryukyu Trench
This study investigated the activity and distribution of low-frequency earthquakes (LFEs) accompanying the very low frequency earthquakes (VLFEs) in the central and southern Ryukyu Trench. This investigation was based on shortperiod seismometer waveforms obtained by the Japan Meteorological Agency from April 2004 to December 2015. The LFEs were detected using the Envelope Correlation Method, an...
متن کاملStructure of the tsunamigenic plate boundary and low-frequency earthquakes in the southern Ryukyu Trench
It has been recognized that even weakly coupled subduction zones may cause large interplate earthquakes leading to destructive tsunamis. The Ryukyu Trench is one of the best fields to study this phenomenon, since various slow earthquakes and tsunamis have occurred; yet the fault structure and seismic activity there are poorly constrained. Here we present seismological evidence from marine obser...
متن کاملLow-Frequency Properties of Intermediate-Focus Earthquakes
Intermediate-focus earthquakes are known to show features such as nondouble-couple focal mechanisms that indicate source complexities. To characterize these features, we have systematically studied the low-frequency radiation from 108 intermediate-focus earthquakes recorded by high-performance seismic networks from 1989–1997 whose total moment was 3 10 N m. We determined frequency-dependent foc...
متن کاملEarthquakes in Oita triggered by the 2016 M7.3 Kumamoto earthquake
During the passage of the seismic waves from the M7.3 Kumamoto, Kyushu, earthquake on April 16, 2016, a M5.7 [semiofficial value estimated by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)] event occurred in the central part of Oita prefecture, approximately 80 km far away from the mainshock. Although there have been a number of reports that M < 5 earthquakes were remotely triggered during the passage o...
متن کاملTeleseismic Time Functions for Large, Shallow Subduction Zone Earthquakes
Broadband vertical P-wave records are analyzed from 63 of the largest shallow subduction zone earthquakes which have occurred in the circum-Pacific in the last 45 yr. Most of the records studied come from a common instrument, the Pasadena, California, Benioff 1-90 seismometer. Propagation and instrument effects are deconvolved from the P-wave records using a damped least-squares inversion to ob...
